“Solo travel is on the rise,” said Matt Cammaert of Kensington, speaking to Travel + Leisure. “Travellers are increasingly seeking destinations rich in cultural significance and offering unique landscapes, combined with the independence and seamless, personalised service they desire.” For Thailand, this translates into a winning combination of bustling urban hubs like Bangkok and Chiang Mai, alongside the tranquil southern islands such as Phuket and Koh Samui.

India topped the Kensington list, celebrated for its vast array of experiences, from the vibrant chaos of Jaipur’s markets to the serene backwaters of Kerala. “India offers such a diverse range of experiences… This variety is what makes India so special for every kind of traveller,” said Anit Singh, Kensington’s destination expert for the Indian subcontinent. Iconic sites like the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, add to its allure, fulfilling lifelong dreams for many solo adventurers.
Italy, ranked second, also captivates solo travellers with its blend of famous landmarks—the Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa—and lesser-known treasures that cater to those seeking unique, off-the-beaten-path experiences.
