This initiative by the Ministry of Public Security marks a departure from traditional paper-based forms, aiming to streamline entry procedures and enhance efficiency at key entry points across the country.

The online arrival registration system will be accessible in Lao, English, and Chinese through the official website of the Immigration Department. All foreign nationals are required to complete the form within three days before their arrival or departure. The trial will initially roll out at major entry points, including Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Luang Prabang International Airport, Pakse International Airport, and the First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, which connects Vientiane to Thailand’s Nong Khai province. This phased approach allows the government to assess the system’s effectiveness before a planned nationwide implementation in 2026. 
According to a notice from the Immigration Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security’s General Department, the system is designed to reduce errors, improve accuracy, and expedite immigration clearance. Pre-arrival registration is expected to significantly cut waiting times, particularly during peak travel seasons, benefiting both travelers and border officials.
Exemptions and Regional Context

Thai citizens crossing the border with a border pass, rather than a passport, will not be required to register online.
