Singapore Coffee Shops Celebrate SG60 with Deals and Discounts

In a heartwarming tribute to Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence, five major coffee shop chains across the island are rolling out a series of promotions and discounts, offering affordable meals and drinks to residents through the end of 2025. From 60-cent beverages to budget-friendly set meals, the initiatives by Badaling, Broadway, Chang Cheng, Koufu, and Select Group aim to bring communities together while easing the financial burden on households during challenging economic times.

Affordable Eats for SG60 Celebrations

The promotions, collectively launched under the SG60 banner, span 140 coffee shops island-wide, providing a range of deals tailored to different tastes and budgets. At 24 of Badaling’s 45 FoodHub outlets, customers spending $6 in a single transaction can purchase a canned drink—such as F&N Pineapple Juice or Pokka Japanese Roasted Tea—for just 60 cents. This offer, which began in mid-March, will run until mid-September, encouraging patrons to enjoy small savings on everyday purchases.

Chang Cheng, another prominent chain, is focusing on shared meals with a nostalgic touch. During July and August, 26 of its 32 outlets will offer an SG60 breakfast set for two priced at $6. The set includes a kopi-o kosong (black coffee without milk or sugar), a teh-o kosong (black tea without milk or sugar), two servings of traditional kaya toast, and four half-boiled eggs. Speaking at the initiative’s launch on April 7 at Chang Cheng Mee Wah coffee shop in Bukit Batok, Chief Financial Officer Jacky Peh emphasized the health-conscious angle of the promotion. “We want to encourage everyone to embrace healthier beverage choices by reducing sugar intake” he said.

Broadway joins the celebration with a discount on a local favorite. From April 15 through the end of the year, 23 of its 24 outlets will serve chicken rice at Wen Chang Hainanese Chicken Rice stalls for $3.50 between 3pm and 5pm—a reduction from the usual $4. Marketing executive Tan Kay Siang told local media that the company sees this as a way to contribute to society. “We want to give back to society, and have something more affordable for everyone. We understand that times have been difficult, so we try to do our best” he noted.

Koufu, operating 63 of its 77 outlets under the SG60 promotions, will offer timed discounts on dim sum dishes and breakfast sets throughout the year. Additionally, holders of PAssion Silver, Pioneer, and Merdeka cards can enjoy hot drinks for 60 cents on weekdays from 3pm to 5pm between April 1 and December 31. Select Group mirrors this gesture, providing 60-cent hot drinks in July and August from 3pm to 6pm daily across all four of its coffee shops.

Community Support and Government Endorsement

The SG60 coffee shop promotions have garnered support from government officials, with Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Low Yen Ling launching the initiative alongside industry representatives. Ms. Low, who also serves as Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, expressed optimism about the collaborative effort. “We’re very happy to see that five coffee shop chain operators have come together to launch SG60 promotions and deals… so that they can together provide extra value and support to fellow Singaporeans” she said at the April 7 event.

Ms. Low also provided an update on the community budget meal scheme, which started in May 2023 to ensure affordable dining options for lower-income residents. The program now covers 250 coffee shops—up from 231 in 2024—with 604 food stalls participating. Meals under this scheme, available for lunch or dinner, are typically priced at $3.50 or less, with drinks costing up to $1.20, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible nutrition.

Beyond Coffee Shops: Supermarket Deals

The spirit of SG60 extends beyond coffee shops, with major supermarket chains joining the commemorative efforts. FairPrice, a household name in Singapore, is offering discounts on its popular house-brand products for 12 weeks, from March 6 to May 28. Meanwhile, Sheng Siong provides a 4 percent discount every Thursday to Blue Chas card holders from March 1 to December 31, ensuring that savings reach grocery shoppers as well.

These combined efforts reflect a broader movement among Singaporean businesses to mark the nation’s milestone anniversary with tangible benefits for the public. The promotions not only celebrate the past 60 years of progress but also acknowledge the economic pressures many families face today, offering a small but meaningful reprieve through discounted essentials.

A Gesture of Unity and Resilience

For many Singaporeans, coffee shops—or kopitiams—are more than just places to eat; they are communal spaces where neighbors connect over a cup of kopi or a quick meal. By tying their promotions to the SG60 theme, these chains are tapping into a shared sense of national pride while fostering inclusivity through affordable pricing. Details of all SG60 coffee shop deals are available on the official SG60 website, ensuring residents can easily find participating outlets near them.

As the year progresses, these promotions stand as a reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined Singapore’s journey since 1965. Whether it’s a discounted plate of chicken rice or a budget breakfast set, each offer carries a message of togetherness, inviting all to join in the celebration of a nation’s enduring spirit.
